What is Schedule 1 other income for crypto?

Line 8 of Schedule 1 (Form 1040), where crypto income that is not from a business is reported: staking, airdrops, rewards, and mining by an investor.

Why it matters on your return

Crypto income that is not capital gain and not business income lands here as "other income," described on the line. It is ordinary income with no self-employment tax. If the activity is a business, it goes on Schedule C instead, with expenses and self-employment tax.

Example

You received $2,400 of staking rewards and a $600 airdrop as an investor. Both go on Schedule 1, line 8, described as digital asset income, and flow into your ordinary income.

Where do I report staking rewards on my tax return?

As an investor, on Schedule 1, line 8 (other income). As a business, on Schedule C.
