1099-K threshold

The payment level at which apps and marketplaces (PayPal, Venmo goods and services, eBay, Etsy) must send you Form 1099-K. Reset to $20,000 and more than 200 transactions for 2025 onward after several years of lower thresholds.

What is 1099-K threshold?

The payment level at which apps and marketplaces (PayPal, Venmo goods and services, eBay, Etsy) must send you Form 1099-K. Reset to $20,000 and more than 200 transactions for 2025 onward after several years of lower thresholds.

Why it matters on your return

A 1099-K reports gross payments, including refunds and fees, and the IRS matches it to your return. A lower threshold would have caught casual sellers; the reset means fewer forms, not fewer taxable sales.

Example

A seller clears $14,000 on eBay across 180 sales in 2025. No 1099-K is issued. The profit on those sales is still reportable; the form was never what made it taxable.

Are personal Venmo payments taxable?

No. Reimbursements from friends are not income. Payments for goods or services are, with or without a form.
