What is Smart contract interaction?

A transaction that calls a blockchain program and may trigger multiple asset movements, fees, or position changes.

Why it matters on your return

One transaction hash can contain several taxable events, and tax software often records only the first token movement it sees. Reconciliation means decoding each interaction into its component transfers, disposals, and income receipts.

Example

A single zap transaction takes 1 ETH, swaps half to USDC, deposits both into a pool, and stakes the LP token in a farm. Decoded, that is a swap, a pool deposit, and a stake, each with its own treatment.

Why does my crypto tax software show one transaction as a loss when I did not sell?

Because it decoded one leg of a multi-step interaction and missed the rest. Complex contract calls have to be reconstructed from the transaction hash.
